ALVARO GUACHALLA

My name is Alvaro Guachalla, I am a son of God by His grace, husband of Luz and father of two boys and a girl. Bolivian by birth, Argentine by parents.

I’ve been serving as a pastor since 2016 at Iglesia Cristiana Bíblica Sola Scripture (ICBSE), a Reformed Baptist congregation of integrated families in the City of La Paz Bolivia. My primary calling after my role as a husband and father has been to teach God’s Word faithfully with a focus on sound doctrine, expository preaching, equipping families with biblical theology, and instructing believers to maintain a biblical worldview when facing socio-cultural and political events. This and my knowledge of English have led me to work as a translator with Editorial Legado Bautista Confesional from Ecuador, and to connect with different Christian ministries such as Equipping Leaders International – ELI and the Institute of Public Theology Public – IOPT, both from the United States.

Since 2020 I began working with ELI in order to train Bolivian men who have the call to pastoral ministry. For this we hold 2 to 3 annual conferences, which have been a great blessing not only for the ICBSE, but also for other local churches in our country. In collaboration with ELI I serve as a teacher in weekly pastoral training courses held at ICBSE, which has led me to collaborate on a plantation in the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina as well.

Aside that, by the grace of the Lord, I am currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree at the IOPT based in Florida, USA as a full-scholarship holder while diving into John Gill’s commentaries in my personal studies. My time at IOPT has led me to the firm conviction that public theology and equipping believers to take every thought captive to the Word is one of my responsibilities as a pastor and as a Christian. Studying at IOPT has also led me to connect with great theologians such as Tom Ascol, Scott Callaham, Tom Nettles, and Voddie Baucham. We look forward to working collaboratively with them in the future to edify the church in Bolivia.

God has been merciful to me, my family, and the church I serve. In his grace I hope he will allow me to be an instrument of edification for the edification of his church.
